The Department of Mass Communication, UNIZIK has hosted it’s long anticipated Departmental Induction ceremony, for it’s first year students themed ”Discovering the Communicator in you”.

The ceremony, held at the New Social Sciences Faculty was graced with the presence of Prominent figures in the school including Prof. Chinyere Okunna, the DVC of Paul University, Awka who was also the special guest of honour, Prof. Allen Adum H.O.D of the Department, Dr. Nwosu Julius the Staff Adviser, Dr. Nzube Ekebosi (CEO reliable homes), Dr.Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, the Chairman NUJ Anambra State Council, Comr. Ojukwu Augustine , the Departmental President and other numerous dignitaries.
Prof. Okunna who was a former HOD of the Department arrived at the venue of the induction on Friday amidst cheers by the students.
In her speech she reiterated the importance of studying Mass Communication to the students present. She also explained the importance of the media to the students, and encouraged the inductees to be independent as students.
Prof. Allen during his speech, spoke about the qualities and achievements of the Department to the society, emphasizing on the ethics and rudiments of the Department that brings out the real communicator in it’s students.

He admonished the students to take their studies seriously and remain committed to the reason they were sent to school.
Dr. Odogwu who is also the Publisher of www.odogwublog.com, told the students that with journalism you can get whatever you want whilst insisting that journalism has given him everything he needs. He also advised the students to start now to build their careers in mass communication.
As part of the Induction processes, the students were required to take an oath to fully abide by the rules of the Department. This stage was handled by the Department’s Staff Adviser, Dr. Julius.
An Award of Honour was presented to Prof. Stella Okunna for being a good mentor and an academic Mother to thousands of Lecturers and students in the Department and beyond.

To spice up the ceremony, different cultural dance troupes presented followed by other forms of entertainment.
